As your eating disorder destroys your body, it also destroys your oral health. This is why Dr. Dido Kim and our dental team are concerned for you. We want you to have the best health and smile possible, and you can’t have those things if you’re hurting yourself with an eating disorder. So, we strongly encourage you to eliminate the disorder from your life. While you work on that, it’s best to take good care of your teeth and gums. To help you do so, we have some tips and information to share.

First, regularly clean your smile and keep up on oral hygiene. Make sure you brush your chompers every morning and every night, floss your teeth once a day, and rinse your mouth daily. While you do these things, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, a flossing product of your choice, and antibacterial mouthwash.

Second, rinse your mouth. After throwing up, please refrain from brushing your teeth. Brushing will just worsen the effects of the acid in your bile. This can lead to further enamel erosion. Instead, rinse your mouth with baking soda to neutralize the stomach acid.

Third, see Dr. Dido Kim. It’s very important that you visit him every six months. The appointments will allow our team to deeply clean your smile and prevent as many dental issues as possible. Our dental team will also have the tips and tricks you need to keep your smile in top-notch condition.
